Back in the days of 1964 during the Worlds trade fair in New York, the Ford Mustang was shown to the World.
It was also used as a product placement in the James Bond 007’s Goldfinger movie during a chase scene with 007’s Aston Martin DB5 in the Swiss Alps.
The publics reaction to this new cars style was rather more favourable than Ford had predicted.
Originally planned to sell around 100,000 cars annually, orders rolled in during just the first year to the tune of over 400,000. Indeed, within just two years of the launch date, the one millionth car was produced.
It is Fords longest running model range.
Over the years, The publics love for the galloping Pony has both lulled and returned, but its place in history as one of the most successful cars models on the planet is well and truly cemented in place.
The Eleanor was originally a customised Mustang as used in the 1974 movie “Gone in 60 seconds”.
A film most notable for a 40 minute car chase seen where a total of 127 cars were either wrecked or damaged.
Again, the Eleanor iteration was reused in the year 2000 when a loose remake of the original film with a different plot staring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie.
The Ford Mustang we have on display this year is a 1966 Coupe model fitted with 302 cubic Inch V8 engine.
1966 is the last year of the original shaped model with the 67’ year models showing larger proportions to give more interior and under bonnet space.
This one features an “Eleanor” body style and is finished in Eleanor Metallic Grey.
There are a number of Eleanor fastback models in the UK, but Eleanor versions based on the original Coupe shape are much rarer and only two others are known of in the UK at this time.
With power steering, power brakes and air conditioning, the car is a visual treat for the many Mustang fans who visit the Classic car scene.
