Featuring a modified version of the existing six cylinder engine, the 4.9L R-Type Continental was the ultimate guise of this successful range.
The light Aluminium bodied coupe shape was heavily influenced by the use of aerodynamic testing at the Rolls Royce wind tunnel facility.
The rear fins were found to stabilise the car at speeds and made it resistant to cross winds helping it to remain stable to its over 120MPH top speed. A great achievement in mid 1950’s.
Most cars were bodied by the coach firm H.J.Mulliner & Co and only 207 cars were produced, making it a rare sight indeed.
This exclusivity and small numbers has lead to it being a very collectable car, with an unrestored model in fetching in excess of over a Million in 2015!
Unsurprising then that they are a very rare find at shows and an almost never spotted model on the road.
