FERRARI 328 GTS (1989) - EX-NIGEL MANSELL

Owned by a Gentleman, storing this amazing car by The Vault Europe.

Key facts (period-correct):

• Model year: 1989 (final year of production)

• Body: GTS (targa) by  Pininfarina

• Engine: 3,185 cc V8, Bosch K-Jetronic, Marelli ignition

•  Power: 199 kW (270 hp) @ 7,000 rpm

• Gearbox: 5-speed manual

• Top  speed: 263 km/h

• Notable provenance: Delivered new  to Nigel Mansell; later in Chris Evans collection.

Built in the final year of 328 production, this right-hand-drive GTS  carries one of the model’s most compelling provenances.

Delivered new to  Formula One legend Nigel Mansell while he was driving for Scuderia  Ferrari, it bears a period plaque in the engine  bay noting “owned and driven by Nigel Mansell whilst driving for  Ferrari,”.

Later, it joined broadcaster Chris Evans’s celebrated Ferrari  collection before being sold at Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival sale to the  current owner and founder of The Vault Europe Ltd.

Provenance of this calibre - from Maranello to a World Champion and on  to a noted collector - elevates an already significant model to a  genuine conversation piece.

Introduced in 1985 as the final evolution of the 308 lineage, the 328  refined Leonardo Fioravanti’s Pininfarina design with cleaner surfaces  and subtle aero detailing, while retaining the pure wedge silhouette and  removable targa panel that define the era’s  V8 Ferraris.

Under the engine cover sits the transversely mounted  3.2-litre V8 (Tipo F105), developing 199 kW (270 hp) at 7,000 rpm,  driving through Ferrari’s signature open-gate five-speed manual. Period  factory figures quote 263 km/h (163 mph) and a wonderfully  mechanical, unfiltered driving experience.

The car you see here is a late-production 1989 example, benefitting from  the model’s final-year updates and representing the closing chapter  before the 348 arrived that autumn. In total, Ferrari built 7,412 328s  (with GTS outnumbering GTB by roughly five to  one), but only a handful enjoy credible F1-driver provenance - and  fewer still present to this standard.

Beautifully presented in concours order, this 328 GTS distils everything  enthusiasts prize about the series: timeless Pininfarina lines, the  metallic snick of the dog-leg gate, and the rev-happy, naturally  aspirated V8 that defined a generation.

Paired with  its documented Mansell connection and period registration, it stands as  a rare bridge between Ferrari’s road-car excellence and its Grand Prix  heritage.
